Where the Wild Things Are

When I was a child, the idea of seeing an elephant "in the wild" seemed remote and exotic.  As I started to travel, I tended towards the the "cultural" wild of historical sites and locales versus the "natural" wild of a world that our humanity continues to overrun.  So when my wife suggested a safari as part of our big trip to celebrate five years of marriage, I was surprised and intrigued by the possibilities. South Africa turned out to be an amazing journey and a place we will not soon forget.  To be in the wild makes one feel alive, and the wonder of feeling small striding next to our mammal cousins is something we should all experience at least once in our lifetimes, to be where the wild things are.
